Dozens of faculty, staff and students gathered at Brockman Hall Oct. 21 for Nobel at 20, a celebration honoring Rice chemist Bob Curl ’54 for the 20th anniversary of the 1996 Nobel Prize in chemistry. Curl, the Kenneth S. Pitzer-Schlumberger Professor Emeritus of Natural Sciences, and the late Richard Smalley and Harold Kroto won the Nobel for their 1985 discovery at Rice of carbon-60, or buckyballs. The prize is the only Nobel awarded to Houston scientists for discoveries made in Houston. To view a video of Curl being interviewed about his Nobel Prize, click here. (Photo by Jeff Fitlow)
