Behnaam Aazhang, the J.S. Abercrombie Professor in Electrical and Computer Engineering, received the 2016 Outstanding Service Award from the Communication Theory Technical Committee (CTTC) of the Institute for Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). The award recognizes members of the CTTC of the IEEE Communications Society who have a distinguished record of service to the CTTC community, including CTTC symposia and workshop organization, leadership roles within the CTTC and promotion of CTTC activities and interests in the broader research community. Aazhang received the award for his innovative leadership that elevated the quality and success of the Communication Theory Workshop, which is held yearly. He will receive the award in May at the IEEE International Conference on Communications in Paris.

Esther Fernández, assistant professor of Spanish and Portuguese and Latin American studies presented “Electra: El lastre de la memoria” at “Performing Spain: Theaters of Memory in Iberian Cultures,” a symposium held at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign Sept. 23.
