Homeland Security’s Bersin to speak at Rice’s Baker Institute Aug. 24 about North American border issues

HOUSTON – (Aug. 16, 2016) – Alan Bersin, assistant secretary for international affairs at the Department of Homeland Security, will speak at Rice University’s Baker Institute for Public Policy Aug. 24 about the progress and remaining challenges in the cross-border regions of the United States, Mexico and Canada and provide a vision for the future.

Hosted by the Baker Institute’s Mexico Center, this event is free and open to the public, but registration is required.

Who: Alan Bersin, assistant secretary for international affairs and chief diplomatic officer in the Office of Policy at the Department of Homeland Security. Previously, Bersin served as commissioner of U.S. Customs and Border Protection from 2010 to 2011.

Tony Payan, the Françoise and Edward Djerejian Fellow for Mexico Studies and director of the Mexico Center, will give welcoming remarks.

What: A presentation titled “Integrating North America: Building a Modern, Efficient and Flexible Border.”

When: Wednesday, Aug. 24, 6-7:30 p.m. (A reception begins at 5:30.)
