One would be hard-pressed to find more organists in one place than a gathering of the American Guild of Organists, which assembled in Houston for its biannual national convention June 19-23. The event featured numerous concerts, workshops, competitions and even worship services throughout the city. Rice University’s Ken Cowan, an associate professor of organ at the Shepherd School of Music, was among the artists who performed in the convention’s concerts. Cowan played before a packed house during two concerts June 23 in the Edythe Bates Old Grand Organ and Recital Hall at the Shepherd School. He performed a variety of musical selections, including an homage to Bach and Widor commissioned specifically for the convention. (Photo by Jeff Fitlow.)
