Rice bioengineer Antonios Mikos has been named the winner of the 2016 Excellence in Surface Science Award of the Surfaces in Biomaterials Foundation. The foundation gives the award to one “who has demonstrated excellence in the surface science industry.” The Mikos lab specializes in biomaterials, drug delivery, gene therapy and tissue engineering, with a focus on synthetic biodegradable polymers for bone and tissue regeneration. Mikos will be invited to speak, and the award will be presented at BioInterface 2016 in October in Minneapolis. Mikos is the Louis Calder Professor of Bioengineering and Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering.
