Helicopter to land at stadium as part of April 16 REMS training day

A medical helicopter is scheduled to land in the parking lot near Rice Stadium April 16 as part of Rice Emergency Medical Services’ (REMS) annual spring training day.

The air ambulance’s appearance will give REMS members and students of Rice’s emergency medical technician class an up-close look at the chopper and a chance to learn about the training and experience needed to serve in the field of air medical services.

The daylong training will also include a Jaws of Life demonstration by the Houston Fire Department’s Rescue Division and staged scenarios in which the students must treat “patients” — volunteers who are given simulated injuries or afflictions. The exercise is designed to put the students to the test to assess their first-aid knowledge and skills.
