Internet2 is an advanced technology organization founded by the country’s leading higher education institutions. It operates the nation’s largest and fastest coast-to-coast research and education network and provides a collaborative environment for U.S. research and education organizations to develop innovative ways to support their mission of education, research and community service. Internet2 serves more than 90,000 community anchor institutions (such as schools, libraries and hospitals), 280 universities, 65 government agencies, 40 regional and state education networks, 85 leading corporations and more than 65 national research and education networking partners representing more than 100 countries.

Leebron will chair a 15-member board that provides strategic direction, leadership and oversight to Internet2. Among the trustees are university presidents, chief information officers, network and discipline researchers and industry partners.

Two other members of the Rice University administration serve on Internet2 advisory groups. Klara Jelinkova, Rice’s chief information officer and vice president for information technology, is a member of the International Strategy advisory group. William Deigaard, director of IT infrastructure, is a member of the Network Architecture, Operations and Policy advisory group.
