Rice head soccer coach Nicky Adams, a former collegiate All-American and one of the most decorated players in Texas A&M history, has been selected for induction into her alma mater’s Lettermen’s Association Hall of Fame this fall. The ceremony is set for Sept. 18 in College Station.

University Professor Malcolm Gillis now has two professorships named in his honor. In addition to Rice’s Malcolm Gillis University Professor title held by Neal Lane, Duke University’s Sanford School of Public Policy has established the S. Malcolm Gillis Professorship of Public Policy to honor Gillis for being a key part of the school’s history and to recognize the work of a top faculty member who will be named the Gillis Chair. Gillis is Rice’s Ervin Kenneth Zingler Professor of Economics and professor of management.

Bill Glick, dean and the H. Joe Nelson III Professor of Management at the Jones Graduate School of Business, began a one-year term July 1 as chair of the board of directors of the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business International (AACSB). Founded in 1916, the association of more than 1,450 educational institutions, businesses and other organizations in 89 countries and territories works to advance quality management education worldwide through accreditation, thought leadership and value-added services. Upon completion of his chairmanship duties, Glick’s volunteer service for AACSB will have spanned almost a decade. He was elected to the AACSB board in 2007 as a member, as secretary/treasurer in 2013 and as vice chair-chair elect in 2014.

Fred Oswald, professor of psychology, was appointed to serve on the National Research Council’s Board of Testing and Assessment’s Committee on Assessing Intrapersonal and Interpersonal Competencies. The committee is focused on student learning, examining research on teamwork, time management, goal setting, interests, motivation and other noncognitive skills that inform teaching effectiveness, student success and institutional accountability. He will serve a three-year term.

The University of Nottingham has named Moshe Vardi, Rice’s Karen Ostrum George Distinguished Service Professor of Computational Engineering and professor of computer science, an honorary professor in its School of Computer Science. The three-year appointment takes effect Aug. 1. Vardi is director of Rice’s Ken Kennedy Institute for Information Technology.

Tao Wei, a graduate student in psychology, received a $30,000 William Orr Dingwall Foundation Neurolinguistics Dissertation Fellowship to support the completion of her dissertation research on the influence of linguistic experience on speech production.
