Unconventional students at Rice: Empowered to succeed and thrive

When Taiwanese-Canadian Sophie Hu decided to call the United States home during her college years, she looked south. After chatting with a friend at another school in Texas, she looked at Rice University.

“It offered so many unique experiences that — as an international student — if you went anywhere else, you wouldn’t have those same experiences that you would have at Rice,” she said. “For example, close relationships with professors and your peers.“

The psychology and economics double major with a minor in business credits those relationships with students, faculty and staff as a source of her success at Rice.

About Brandon Martin

Greetings, I am a video producer at Rice University in the Office of Public Affairs. I became a Rice Owl in June 2011. Before that, I was at KPRC-TV in Houston as a special projects photojournalist for seven years, where I covered everything from hurricanes to sports. Southeast Texas has been my home my entire life. I am lucky to have a wonderful wife and two of the cutest girls I have ever seen. Go Owls!
