Architecture’s fab new lab open for projects

A ribbon-cutting and reception marked the opening of the Gensler Fabrication Lab at the Rice School of Architecture (RSA) Jan. 16. The lab on the first and second floors gathers resources for architecture students that were once scattered around Anderson Hall and adds two new 3-D printers and a vacuum former for advanced prototyping. The global design firm Gensler sponsored the new facility. At the ribbon-cutting ceremony were, from left, Jo Furr; James Furr, a senior lecturer at Rice and managing principal emeritus of Gensler; Joni Calkins, a Gensler senior associate; David Calkins, regional managing principal of Gensler’s Houston office; and RSA Dean Sarah Whiting, the William Ward Watkin Professor of Architecture.
