United Way committee gives thanks for campus support

At the end of its eighth week, the Rice United Way Campaign has met its $200,000 goal and is well on the way to last year’s record-setting total. To date, 697 Rice employees have contributed $216,668, barely $13,000 away from the 2013 campaign’s high mark.

“The entire campaign committee would like to thank our Rice colleagues for their generosity,” said Wade Adams, the campaign’s faculty chair. “We took a chance, cutting the campaign from more than 20 weeks to only 10, but so far, nearly 700 of our co-workers have proved that a more compact campaign can be both short and sweet.”

“There are two weeks still left in the campaign,” Staff Chair Tina Villard said. “And we are well within reach of a new record. We hope that those who have not yet renewed their support, and those who may be pledging for the first time, will help take us over the top.”

“In this season of Thanksgiving, I know that we are all very grateful for the opportunity we enjoy to work for a great institution like Rice,” said Lead Donors Chair Y. Ping Sun. “I hope we can all share a bit of that good fortune with those in our community who need the kind of help that the United Way provides by making a pledge to the Rice United Way Campaign.”

The campaign concludes Dec. 9 with a campuswide picnic for all 2014-15 donors.
