Leebron takes the Ice Bucket Challenge

Rice President David Leebron accepted three ALS Ice Bucket Challenges — from Rice Professor James Tour, from a group of Rice students and from Texas Children’s Hospital President and CEO Mark Wallace — and got drenched outside his home Aug. 26. He committed to make a donation to the ALS Association and noted the important role of universities and their medical centers in conducting research to find a cure for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and other neurological diseases. He challenged Rice students — in particular, the presidents of each of the 11 residential colleges, the president of the Student Association and the president of the Graduate Student Association — to raise money for the cause as well. Then he endured the downpour of ice and water, courtesy of his children, Daniel and Merissa, and his wife, Y. Ping Sun. (Photos by Tommy LaVergne, video by Brandon Martin)
