Former Houston Mayor White to discuss new book at Rice’s Baker Institute April 3

Former Houston Mayor Bill White will discuss his new book, “America’s Fiscal Constitution: Its Triumph and Collapse,” at Rice University’s Baker Institute for Public Policy April 3.

The event is open to the public and will be from 6 to 8 p.m. in Baker Hall’s Doré Commons. A reception and book signing will follow White’s presentation.

Edward Djerejian, founding director of the Baker Institute, will present introductory remarks.

In “America’s Fiscal Constitution,” White dispels common myths about the budget and extracts practical lessons from the nation’s five previous spikes in debt. Drawing on original scholarship and his experience in finance and public service, he offers an objective guide for people trying to make sense of the current debt crisis and its impact on their lives and futures, event organizers said.

White, a former U.S. deputy secretary of energy, energy executive and three-term Houston mayor, is currently chairman of Lazard Houston.
