Africa expert to give Boniuk Institute talk March 28

Rice University’s Boniuk Institute for the Study and Advancement of Religious Tolerance will host a March 28 talk by economist and Africa scholar John Mukum Mbaku on “Religious Tolerance and Peaceful Coexistence in Africa.”

The lecture will be at 4 p.m. in Sewall Hall, Room 309. A light reception will follow.

Mbaku, a Presidential Distinguished Professor of Economics at Weber State University and nonresident senior fellow in the Brookings Institution’s Africa Growth Initiative, is the author or editor of 16 books and has published more than 100 articles in academic journals and scholarly books. He is a former associate editor of the Journal of Third World Studies and a former managing editor of the Journal of Land, Resources and Environmental Law. Mbaku has served as a consultant for the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, the African Development Bank, the Kenya Institute for Public Policy Research and Analysis and the African Economic Research Consortium.
