Pelosi to speak at Rice’s Baker Institute March 18

HOUSTON – (March 10, 2014) – U.S. House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., will speak at Rice University’s Baker Institute for Public Policy March 18 for an invitation-only event. This is Pelosi’s first visit to the Baker Institute.


Who:               U.S. House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi, D.-Calif.

Baker Institute Honorary Chair James A. Baker III will provide introductory remarks. Baker Institute Founding Director Edward Djerejian will serve as moderator.

What:             “A Conversation with the Honorable Nancy Pelosi” public event.

When:             Tuesday, March 18, 6-7:30 p.m.

Where:           Rice University, Baker Hall, Doré Commons, 6100 Main St.

Pelosi is the Democratic leader of the House of Representatives in the 113th Congress. From 2007 to 2011 she served as the first woman speaker of the House, and she is the first woman in American history to lead a major political party in Congress. Pelosi has led House Democrats for a decade and has represented the 12th District of San Francisco for 26 years. In October 2013 she was inducted into the National Women’s Hall of Fame at a ceremony in Seneca Falls, the birthplace of the American women’s rights movement.
