Rice student reported missing in Florida

Reny Jose

Rice University senior Reny Jose has been reported missing in Panama City Beach, Fla., where he and fellow students arrived March 1 to spend spring break at a rented beach-front home. His friends have not seen him since he went for a walk around 6:30 p.m. March 3.

Jose, a 21-year-old mechanical engineering major, is a member of Martel College.

Friends of Jose have set up a Facebook page to spread the word about his disappearance, and Rice President David Leebron sent a letter to students, staff and faculty March 9 expressing concern for Jose and also for students who have died recently. The Jose family welcomes emails about their son at this address: findreny@gmail.com.

The Bay County Sheriff’s Office is investigating Jose’s disappearance and issued a news release March 6 about the expanded efforts to search for the missing student. Anyone with information about Jose that might be helpful should contact the Rice University Police Department at 713-348-6000.
