Starting them early

During the Shepherd School Symphony Orchestra’s rehearsal at New York’s DiMenna Center for Classical Music in preparation for the Feb. 18 Carnegie Hall debut, bassoonist Tommy Morrison takes time out for an impromptu lesson with two young onlookers, Harry and Leo Byala. Teaching youngsters is nothing new for Morrison, who coordinates the Just For U Music Program (JUMP), a Shepherd School outreach program that gives young audiences a chance to explore the highly expressive power of classical music firsthand through a series of interactive concerts.
