Tibetan meditation scholar to give Boniuk Institute talk Jan. 16

Rice University’s Boniuk Institute for the Study and Advancement of Religious Tolerance is joining forces with the Asia Society Texas Center to host a Jan. 16 talk by Tibetan meditation scholar Alejandro Chaoul ’06 on “A Tibetan Way Toward Religious Understanding.”

The event with Chaoul, an assistant professor and director of education for the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center’s Integrative Medicine Program, will be from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Asia Society Texas Center’s Brown Foundation Performing Arts Theater, 1370 Southmore Blvd. A light reception will be at 6:30 p.m.

Chaoul teaches Tibetan meditation and mind-body techniques in various parts of the United States, Latin America and Europe. He is also an associate faculty member at the University of Texas Medical School’s McGovern Center for Humanities and Ethics, where he teaches medical students in the areas of spirituality, complementary and integrative medicine and end-of-life care.

The event is part of the Boniuk Institute’s Bridge Builder Lecture Series and the Asia Society Texas Center’s Partnerships and Collaborations Series.
