“LIVE and IN PERSON,” an exhibition of gig posters and other printed matter by Carlos Hernandez, lecturer and visiting artist in the Department of Visual and Dramatic Arts, will open Jan. 16 in the Rice Media Center’s Visual and Dramatic Arts Main Gallery. The show is free to the public and will be on view through Jan. 30.

An opening reception will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. Jan. 16. The gallery is open 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday and closed Saturday and Sunday.

Hernandez is a founding partner of Houston’s Burning Bones Press printmaking studio. He has designed and printed gig posters for such artists as The Kills, Arcade Fire, Kings of Leon and Santana. Most recently, he was selected as the official poster artist to design the commemorative poster for the 2013 Austin City Limits Music Festival.

His work will make its big-screen premiere in 2014 when his poster for Florence and the Machine is included in the set design for “The Amazing Spider Man 2: London Calling.”
