Unconventional Education at Rice University: Mikki Hebl

Students describe Rice University Professor of Psychology Mikki Hebl as “some kind of unstoppable force,” and after spending some time with her, it’s easy to see why. In addition to being a devoted wife, mother and marathoner (who has completed 26.2-mile races in all 50 states), she is a prolific researcher who has received numerous teaching awards and was even chosen to give a commencement address at Rice.

“She does so much — she publishes nonstop, runs a lab and teaches … many classes each semester,” said Naomi Fa-Kaji ’14.

“I can honestly say she is my favorite professor,” said Clayton Hiebert ’16. “I definitely leave her class much happier because she’s such a vibrant person and has so much energy. She definitely upholds every standard Rice has.”
