HOUSTON – (Nov. 25, 2013) – Students in Rice University’s Jones Graduate School of Business will present “2013 Business Solutions to Global Health and Education” at the Jones School Dec 3.

The event will showcase how Jones School students this year created business plans for Rice University technologies that are aimed at addressing health and educational issues in the developing world.

The students’ presentations and a keynote by Marc Epstein, the Distinguished Research Professor of Management at the Jones School, will be at 6 p.m. in McNair Hall’s Shell Auditorium, 6100 Main St. A marketplace and reception will take place at 8 p.m. in McNair Hall’s Anderson Family Commons.

The event will showcase how Jones School students this year created business plans for Rice University technologies that are aimed at addressing health and educational issues in the developing world. The technologies include an IV flow regulator, a blood-absorbing pad, a blood pressure monitor, a mobile inhaler and a digital learning application. The students visited Liberia to gather market and field research that could help with the launch of these technologies in Africa and other developing markets. At the event, the students will share their business plans and reflect on their experiences in Africa.

In his keynote, Epstein will discuss his two new books, “Pharmacy on a Bicycle: Innovative Solutions for Global Health and Poverty” and “Measuring and Improving Social Impacts: A Guide for Nonprofits, Companies and Impact Investors.”
