Rice to host quantum materials physics workshop

Rice students and junior scientists are invited to attend and present posters at an Army Research Office workshop on quantum materials physics to be hosted by the university Dec. 9-11.

Registration for the workshop at the BioScience Research Collaborative is free, but the deadline for those who plan to present posters is Nov. 15. The number of participants will be capped, due to seating limitations.

Organizers said the workshop will address frontier topics in quantum condensed matter and materials physics, with a focus on the Kondo effect and quantum phase transitions in heavy fermion materials and related systems. Among the specific topics to be discussed are magnetism, superconductivity and quantum materials out of equilibrium.

Organizers include Rice physicists Qimiao Si, Matthew Foster, Emilia Morosan, Douglas Natelson and Andriy Nevidomskyy and UCLA physicist Elihu Abrahams.
