Writers to explore ‘The Veteran Experience’ at Rice Nov. 5

Six acclaimed authors will discuss their writing as a lens to explore veteran and active-duty experiences Nov. 5 for the inaugural The Veteran Experience Speaker Series at Rice University’s Jones Graduate School of Business.

The panel, which is hosted by Rice’s Veterans in Business Association, will be at 6 p.m. in McNair Hall’s Shell Auditorium, 6100 Main St. A reception will take place at 5 p.m. in McNair Hall’s Anderson Family Commons.

The authors are David Abrams, author of “Fobbit,” a New York Times “notable book”; William Broyles, a Rice alumnus and Academy Award-nominated screenwriter; Lea Carpenter, author of the critically acclaimed novel “Eleven Days”; Ben Fountain, award-winning author of “Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk”; Bruce Jay Friedman, author of eight novels and an Academy Award-nominated screenwriter; and Karl Marlantes, author of New York Times bestseller “Matterhorn” and winner of the Flaherty-Dunnan First Novel Prize.
