Rice University closed July 4-7; media contact information

HOUSTON — (July 2, 2013) – Rice University will be closed July 4 through July 7, reopening for regular business Monday, July 8. News media requiring assistance during that period should contact the Rice News and Media Relations Department’s on-call number, 713-348-6774.

To hold you over until Monday, Rice University video producer Brandon Martin put together a video on “The owls of Rice University,” a look at the school’s mascots that have habitated Rice’s 300-acre forested campus over the past two years.

Also, “Rice’s Owls,” Robert Flatt’s photographic chronicle of the daily life of a family of owls that took up residence on the Rice campus in 2010, won the 2013 IndieReader Discovery Award for photography recently. See more about “Rice’s Owls” award here.

Located on a 300-acre forested campus in Houston, Rice University is consistently ranked among the nation’s top 20 universities by U.S. News & World Report. Rice has highly respected schools of Architecture, Business, Continuing Studies, Engineering, Humanities, Music, Natural Sciences and Social Sciences and is home to the Baker Institute for Public Policy. With 3,708 undergraduates and 2,374 graduate students, Rice’s undergraduate student-to-faculty ratio is 6-to-1. Its residential college system builds close-knit communities and lifelong friendships, just one reason why Rice has been ranked No. 1 for best quality of life multiple times by the Princeton Review and No. 2 for “best value” among private universities by Kiplinger’s Personal Finance.
