Moonwalker Alan Bean to give Space Frontiers Lecture

Alan Bean

Astronaut and artist Alan Bean will speak at Rice on March 21.

Alan Bean, lunar module pilot for Apollo 12 in 1969 and the fourth man to walk on the moon, will speak during the Space Frontiers Lecture Series March 21 at 7 p.m. at Duncan Hall’s McMurtry Auditorium.

The Texas native, who also flew on a record-setting 59-day mission to Skylab, will discuss his missions and his subsequent career as a painter in a talk titled “Reaching for Your Own Special Star.” Bean’s paintings document his experiences on the moon and those of his fellow astronauts.

The lecture series, sponsored by the Rice Space Institute, is open to the public. Reservations are not needed. A reception will precede the lecture at 6:30 in the Duncan Hall foyer.
