Medical World Americas expo coming to Houston

Thousands of medical professionals from across the country will meet in Houston for the Medical World Americas conference and expo in April 2014. Greg Ortale, president and CEO of the Greater Houston Convention and Visitors Bureau (GHCVB), announced the decision to bring the huge trade show to Houston Feb. 28 at a news conference in the Texas Medical Center. He was joined by Rice President David Leebron, Houston Mayor Annise Parker ’78, Dr. Robert Robbins, CEO of the Texas Medical Center, and other officials in making the announcement. Parker said the presentation of medical products, equipment, technology and services at the conference will help “brand Houston and health.” Ortale said the bureau worked for three years to land the convention, and he credited Rice President David Leebron for suggesting at a meeting a number of years ago that the GHCVB focus on Houston’s core economic strengths — health, energy and space — in recruiting conventions.
