Houston alum flies high to give back to Rice

Houston alumnus Ned Hibberd ’88 gave back to Rice in a unique way this month. Hibberd, a longtime shutterbug and video enthusiast, brought his newly purchased quadrotor remote-controlled helicopter to campus to capture high-resolution aerial video of the campus for Rice video producer Brandon Martin, a member of Public Affairs’ news and media team.

“It’s important for alums to know there are many ways they can give back to Rice other than getting out their checkbook,” Hibberd said. “I’ve been thinking about flying this through the Sallyport since the day I got it, and I’m out here just to have fun and enjoy myself. But I’m also a big fan of Brandon’s work, and I wanted him to have these images because they show off the beauty of this place in a new way.”
