Educator Freeman Hrabowski to discuss expanding minorities in science, technology at Jan. 31 lecture at Rice University

HOUSTON — (Jan. 15, 2013) — Freeman Hrabowski III, an expert on minority participation in science and math education, will present “Expanding the Science and Technology Pipeline in America: Institutional Culture Change, Innovation and Inclusive Excellence” at 8 p.m. Jan. 31 at Rice University as part of the President’s Lecture Series.

Hrabowski, who is president of the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, chaired the National Academies’ committee that produced the report “Expanding Underrepresented Minority Participation: America’s Science and Technology Talent at the Crossroads.” He was recently named by President Barack Obama to chair the newly created President’s Advisory Commission on Educational Excellence for African-Americans. Hrabowski’s research and publications focus on science and math education, with special emphasis on minority participation and performance.
