The presentation, “Challenges Facing the International Community at the Start of 2013,” will be at 12:30 p.m. in Baker Hall’s Doré Commons. Lunch will be served at noon. Baker Institute Founding Director Edward Djerejian will provide introductory remarks.

“2013 will be a crucial year for the international community,” Westmacott said in advance of his remarks. “We must work to restore prosperity to the global economy, renew our commitment to international development and deal with geopolitical challenges in the Middle East, North Africa, South Asia and elsewhere. As president of the G-8 and with Prime Minister David Cameron serving as co-chair of the panel working toward a replacement for the Millennium Development Goals, the U.K. will be at the forefront of our collective efforts. It is an honor to be invited to address these important challenges before such a distinguished audience.”

The event is hosted by the Baker Institute and the British Consulate-General Houston.

The consulate has set up a Twitter hashtag for Westmacott’s Baker Institute presentation, #UKTX, on its official Twitter handle, @UKinTX, and encourages people to submit questions for him to address after his presentation.
