IT has a sweet time for a good cause

IT dessert fundraiser

Carlyn Chatfield, technical communications manager for Information Technology, flambéed bananas Foster at a Dec. 10 Dessert Fest fundraiser hosted by IT staff for the Houston Area Women’s Center (HAWC). The annual bake sale raised more than $600 for the United Way agency that provides shelter, counseling and advocacy for individuals building lives free from the effects of violence. Anneliese Davis ’95, chief development officer of HAWC and a Rice alumna, was the featured guest at the Dessert Fest and thanked the Rice community for its continued generosity.

IT also held a donation drive for the HAWC and collected toys, games, gift cards, clothes, accessories and household items for the center’s gift program. Donated new items make it possible for a child or parent to experience the fun of choosing and sharing the perfect present with someone they love. Gently used clothes, shoes, accessories and household items were also collected for a resale shop that assists HAWC clients.
