Rice experts available to comment on party conventions

HOUSTON — (Sept. 4, 2012) — With the national convention right around the corner, the stakes have never been higher for the Democratic Party. Rice University historian Douglas Brinkley and political scientists Paul Brace, Mark Jones and Robert Stein are available to comment on the convention set for Sept. 4-6 in Charlotte, N.C.

Brinkley, a fellow in history at Rice University’s Baker Institute for Public Policy and a professor of history, can comment the history of political parties and party conventions in the United States and their impact on the race for president.

Brace, the Clarence L. Carter Professor of Political Science, can discuss the American presidency, political parties, conventions, public opinion polls, electoral politics and candidates’ positions on the various issues.

Jones, chair of political science and a fellow at the Baker Institute, can comment on local news angles, including Texas’ role in the conventions.

Stein, the Lena Gohlman Fox Professor of Political Science, can discuss public opinion polls, voting behavior, electoral politics and public policy.
