Enrique Barrera, a Rice professor of mechanical engineering and materials science, has been named to the board of directors of the Houston Forensic Science Center Local Government Corporation by Houston Mayor Annise Parker ‘78. The board will oversee operation of a center to provide the city and area communities with analysis of forensic evidence and related services.

Michael Grojean, executive director of custom programs and professor in the practice of management at the Jones Graduate School of Business, has been elected a scholar of the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology.

Rice Partnership for the Advancement and Immersion of Refugees (PAIR) was recently recognized by the Jenzabar Foundation for its services to the refugee community in Houston. Rice PAIR was one of seven nationwide recipients of the Jenzabar Foundation’s Student Leadership Award. Sid Richardson College rising junior Annie Kuhl and Lauren Vestewig, executive director of Rice 360°: Institute for Global Health, represented Rice PAIR at the Jenzabar Annual Meeting May 30 in Dallas, where they accepted a grant of $5,000 for use in the upcoming academic year.

Lanny Martin, associate professor of political science, won the 2012 Fenno Prize for his book, “Parliaments and Coalitions: The Role of Legislative Institutions in Multiparty Governance,” co-authored with Georg Vanberg of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The American Political Science Association awards the prize annually for the best book on legislative politics.
