Rice readies for rodeo fun

Students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends are invited to dust off their western wear and help Rice embrace the Lone Star spirit as the university celebrates Rodeo Houston and “Go Texan Day” with a series of events.

Rice Night at the RodeoJan. 31

Discounted carnival and rodeo tickets for Rice Night at the Rodeo (March. 5) go on sale to Rice ID holders at the Rice Memorial Center. Join fellow Owls for rodeo festivities and a performance by the Eli Young Band. Rodeo performance tickets are $15 for students and $20 for faculty and staff. There is a limit of four tickets per Rice ID holder. Rice alumni and friends may order tickets at rodeohouston.com.

Feb. 24

Wear your best country/western wear in celebration of “Go Texan Day.” Also, stop by the HOOTS Cowboy Breakfast Tacos fundraiser near Willy’s Statue in the Academic Quad from 7-9 a.m.

Feb. 25

President David Leebron, University Representative Ping Sun and Sammy the Owl will participate in the 2012 Rodeo Parade. The trio will be easy to spot in a 1912 Model T decorated with centennial banners.

March 5

In honor of Rice Night at the Rodeo, residential colleges will offer special western-themed lunch menus. The topic of the Staff Advisory Committee’s monthly Lunch Bunch for that day will be Rodeo Houston and a rodeo speaker will share insight during the event, which will be held in McMurtry College Commons at 11:30 a.m.
