Across the country on Veterans Day, Nov. 11, Americans will honor and remember the men and women who have served in the military. On campus, Rice University will celebrate the more than 100 veterans among its faculty, staff and students at an 11 a.m. ceremony at Rice Memorial Center’s Ray Courtyard.

The ceremony will include a flag raising by the Navy ROTC, which is celebrating its 70th year at Rice, and special recognition of Rice employees and students for their military service. Professor Emeritus Chandler Davidson, a veteran of the U.S. Navy and Rice employee of 45 years, will be the 2011 veteran honoree. Brian Soika, director of procurement, will emcee the event, and Michael Grojean, executive director of custom programs in the Jones Graduate School of Business, will be the keynote speaker. Also included in the ceremony will be Carlton Ford, a graduate student in the Shepherd School of Music, who will sing the national anthem, and the mini-MOB. A reception will follow the 20-minute ceremony.

Employees and students who are veterans are invited to wear their uniforms. All members of the Rice community are welcome to attend.

If it’s raining, the ceremony will be moved to Rice Chapel.
