Rice’s Richard Tapia to receive National Medal of Science from President Obama Friday
Rice University mathematician Richard Tapia will receive the National Medal of Science from President Barack Obama at a White House ceremony at 2 p.m. EDT Oct. 21. The medal is the highest honor bestowed upon a scientist by the U.S government.
Tapia is being honored by Obama “for his pioneering and fundamental contributions in optimization theory and numerical analysis and for his dedication and sustained efforts in fostering diversity and excellence in mathematics and science education.”
