Annual office-supply swap set for Aug. 24

FROM RICE NEWS STAFF REPORTS

Time to clean out desks and supply closets — Rice’s annual Free-cycling event is back. The popular office-supply swap is set for Aug. 24 in Grand Hall, Rice Memorial Center, with “shopping” hours from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Through Aug. 19, offices across campus can donate items for the event by putting them in boxes marked “FREE-Cycling” in outgoing mail, and Delivery Services will pick them up. Pickups for large quantities of items can be scheduled by contacting Rita Aleman, rrojas@rice.edu.

Items to free-cycle include appointment books, binders, business card holders, calculators, clipboards, coffee pots, cups, dividers, organizers, easels and pads, envelopes, expanding files, FedEx shipping supplies, file folders, hanging folders, highlighters, index cards, dividers, index guides, interoffice envelopes, labels, note pads, paper clips, pens and pencils, rubber bands, staplers and unused batteries.

Large items, such as whiteboards or chairs, should be submitted by photograph, with contact information attached.

Items that can be listed on Rice Classifieds should not be donated for the event.

Items may also be dropped off between noon and 4 p.m. Aug. 23 or on the day of the event at Grand Hall.

Recycling bins will be available for old batteries, cell phones, empty toner and ink cartridges, bubble wrap, packing peanuts and electronics. Contact Marc Scarborough in IT at marcs@rice.edu to have any data devices cleaned before dropping them off.

Any items that remain at the end of the event will be donated to a charitable organization.

Delivery Services is seeking volunteers to help set up the event Aug. 23 and 24. To volunteer or for more information about Free-cycling, contact Ute Franklin, umf@rice.edu.
