Rice hosts Strategic Space Forum

The future of space science in Texas was the focus of the Strategic
Space Forum at Rice University’s BioScience Research Collaborative July
1. Leading off the day of discussion were, from left, Rep. Pete Olson,
R-Texas, co-chairman of the House Space Caucus and a member of the House
Energy and Commerce Committee; Daniel Carson, dean of the Wiess School
of Natural Sciences; Rice President David Leebron; and Michael Coats,
director of NASA’s Johnson Space Center. Invited guests included
educators and researchers and members of Houston’s business community as
well as NASA administrators and astronauts. They discussed prospects
for partnerships that will preserve and enhance Houston’s strength as a
world leader in space science and the wide range of technologies that
spring from it.
