Bluebonnets in bloom

| Bluebonnets in the Harris Gully Natural Area are in spectacular bloom, thanks to a wildflower seed-spreading effort last fall sponsored by the Lynn R. Lowrey Arboretum at Rice. The carpet of blue flowers interspersed with dots of bright red, yellow and orange covers the field between Wiess College and the Rice Track Stadium. The seed sowers included Ken Whitney, assistant professor in ecology and evolutionary biology, and other Arboretum Committee members, undergraduate and graduate students, members of Facilities, Engineering & Planning and nine Daisy troop members from West University Elementary School (with their parents and teachers). |
