Sallie Keller, the William and Stephanie Sick Dean of Engineering, said Lugg’s “exceptional editorial and organizational skills” and her extensive knowledge of the range of programs and activities within Engineering merited promoting her from senior department administrator to director of communications when Keller became dean in July 2005. Keller credited Lugg with developing the School of Engineering’s external persona, including production of a professional engineering magazine, and improving internal communication with a Weekly Dean’s Message and a Dine with the Dean series.

Keller noted that Lugg won the first Brandy Award from Rice Public Affairs for excellence in the use of branding to support the university’s communications and public affairs strategies.
