Privacy, education records topic of Aug. 25 ‘Legal Brown Bag’

Rice’s General Counsel’s Office is continuing its series of occasional “Legal Brown Bags,” noontime presentations to which members of the Rice community can bring their lunches and hear information on a legal subject and ask questions.

The next brown bag will take place at noon Aug. 25 in Farnsworth Pavilion, Ley Student Center. The talk will focus on rules and good practices under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), the federal law that protects the privacy of students’ educational records. Senior Associate General Counsel Carlos Garcia will present an overview and update on FERPA, and Garcia, Registrar David Tenney and attorneys Joe Davidson and Veta Byrd will answer questions on the law or other legal matters relating to work at Rice.
