Eugene Levy, the Howard Hughes Provost and professor of physics and astronomy, was quoted in an article on the resignations of three of NASA’s top science advisers who spoke out against budget cuts in the space agency’s science programs. As one of the three advisers, Levy said he understood the budget constraints, but added, “We were certainly concerned that a strong commitment to science be maintained.”

An article reported that researchers at Rice have conducted one of the first studies to document the sophisticated trait of kin discrimination in a social microorganism. Lead author Natasha Mehdiabadi, postdoctoral research associate in ecology and evolutionary biology, was quoted.

Knight Ridder
An article featured research that studied the Paleocene-Ecocene Thermal Maximum that caused severe global warming 50,000 to 100,000 years ago. Gerald Dickens, associate professor of Earth science and co-author of the study, was quoted extensively.
