  Alliance’s Innovative Entrepreneurship Education Cited

The Rice Alliance for Technology and Entrepreneurship at Rice University received The Price Institute Innovative Entrepreneurship Educators Award from the Stanford Technology Ventures Program (STVP) at Stanford University.

The award was presented to Steven C. Currall, founding director of the Rice Alliance, during the Roundtable on Entrepreneurship Education for Scientists and Engineers (REE) at Stanford Oct. 28. Currall is the William and Stephanie Sick Chair in Entrepreneurship and associate professor of management, psychology and statistics at Rice.

STVP faculty and staff selected the Rice Alliance for the Price award, citing the alliance as a model for bringing together business leaders, students, and faculty across several different schools.

The Rice Alliance   supports the creation of technology-based companies and the commercialization of new technologies through education and research.   The alliance resulted from a collaboration among Rice’s Jesse H. Jones Graduate School of Management, George R. Brown School of Engineering and Wiess School of Natural Sciences.

Since its inception in late 1999, the Rice Alliance has helped launch more than 150 new technology companies that have raised more than $100 million in early stage funding.   It has also attracted nearly $4 million in external funding, including donations and pledges, as well as two grants from the National Science Foundation to promote entrepreneurship education and research.
